All the Sweaters a Man Should Wear This Fall, Explained
All the Sweaters a Man Should Wear This Fall, Explained
Sweater weather: It’s here.
But which one? Why? And what should you wear with it? These are the questions every seasoned sweater selector must ask himself.
Unlike hoodies and crewnecks, sweaters come in different shapes, sizes, and necklines, each suited to a slightly different task or purpose. And understanding those differences is the key to pulling off an outfit that will prompt perfect strangers to say things like, “Yo, that’s a dope sweater,” or, “Hey, where did you get that?”
So today, we are taking a closer look at each sweater in our 2026 Fall Collection to explore its backstory and intended use. If you think you only need one new sweater this year, this guide will help you find it. And if you think you need all the new sweaters this year, this guide will help you decide when to wear each of them.
Let’s review.
An archetypal piece of American sportswear, the crew sweater rose to prominence on college campuses in the mid-20th century. Though it skews more casual, it’s perfectly suitable for date nights and most modern office settings.
Our version… is made of 100% textured organic cotton. Classic fit, ribbed cuffs and collar. Comes in Burgundy and an off-white Beachwood.
Wear it with… moc-toe boots and the Nomad Pant, our new vintage-styled utility pant with hard-wearing canvas fabric and large-format patch pockets.
Perfect for… morning coffee runs, Friday dinners at your go-to spot, and walking the dog without looking like a schlub.
Cable here refers not to the shape of the sweater, but rather the construction: the knit features raised patterns that resemble ropes or cables. Those cables give the sweater more heft, which in turns makes it ideal for cold and wet environments. Also known as a fisherman’s sweater.
Our version… is 60% organic cotton and 40% Seawool, a wool dupe made of recycled plastic and oyster shells. Naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial. Comes in three coastal-inspired vintage washes: Oak, Navy and Seapine Green.
Wear it with… Driftwood Denim Pants in a light wash and the Seaport Chore Jacket for max coverage on a dreary coastal day.
Perfect for… keeping warm and looking great outdoors. Think ferry commutes, beach bonfires, and any fall weekend spent on a lake, bay, harbor, or cape.
The shawl sweater features a broad, rounded collar that rolls seamlessly into its lapels. Thick, cozy, and inspired by eveningwear like smoking jackets and formal robes, it’s a more raffish, casual take on a classic cardigan.
Our version… is made from heavyweight organic cotton. Ribbed cuffs and a shaker-stitch finish give it an added dose of texture and breathability. Available in a rich Espresso brown.
Wear it with… a Pacific Henley and Driftwood Denim shirt to put on a masterclass in fall layering.
Perfect for… tending the fire in a holiday chalet, dinner parties, and sipping nightcaps in a dimly lit whiskey bar.
The style itself requires little explanation: take a polo, add sleeves, give it a textured knit fabric that elevates it from shirt to sweater. While classic polos owe their roots to country clubs and bourgeois sportswear, heavier knit versions like this one are more of a throwback to modish ‘70s socialites on both sides of the pond.
Our version… is mid-weight organic cotton with a piqué-like textured finish. Clean, simple placket and collar, subtle ribbing on the cuffs. Comes in three classic, muted colors: Espresso, Navy, and a Seastone gray.
Wear it with… the Horizon 5-Pocket Pant and your cleanest pair of sneakers. It can also dress down a suit with aplomb.
Perfect for… sprucing up your workday uniform, holding court at the club, or impressing the in-laws while you man the grill.
