What to Wear on Five Essential Fall Outings
There’s something relentless about fall.
Football’s back. School’s in session. Your home and property need winterizing. And that’s before you even get to the ecological signs: leaves changing, tides heightening, days growing shorter.
Suffice to say you probably have a packed schedule amid all this madness. To help save you a bit of time — and restore some peace of mind — we’ve put together the perfect outfit for five essential fall outings.
The Leaf-Peeping Hike
Our advice: leave the loud colors and patterns at home. If the leaves are really firing, you’ll be taking a photo or two, and you want to complement the foliage, not compete with it. So keep things simple, solid and neutral with a crispy Saltaire Tee and Rover Crewneck.
And once the blood’s pumping, you’ll regret wearing pants, so throw on our One Short. It performs like a gym short but wears casual, which means you don’t need to change before rolling into the nearest brewery for a hard-earned post-hike libation.
The Tailgate
Saturdays are for the boys and also our Collegiate Collection. It’s not gameday gear, it’s beyond game day gear, with oxfords, crewnecks, hoodies and shorts bearing the insignia of some of our favorite NCAA teams.
Don’t see your alma mater? Submit your school via the form on this page and we’ll do our best to get it added to the roster for next season.
The Farm/Cidery/Orchard Tour
A distinctly American fall excursion calls for a distinctly American ensemble. You’re wearing blue jeans. Choose your fighter from three blue washes of our Driftwood Denim Pant (Light, Beach, Deep Sea) and pair it with the Seaside Lightweight Flannel.
Both of those items are built for comfort and versatility — light and breathable with just the right amount of stretch. Perfect for lugging around apples, pumpkins, or cider flagons on an unseasonably warm October day.
The Coastal Getaway
Look, don’t tell anyone, but shoulder season is the ideal time to sneak in a quick weekend in your favorite beach, boardwalk or harbor town. No lines. Discounted hotels. Plentiful beach to stroll — or bathe, if you’re brave enough.
So pack your Anchor or Bayberry trunk and an Avalon Blanket Hoodie, a veritable uniform for testing the water this time of year.
The Fall Cleanup
OK, so this one is more of an “in-ning” than an outing, but it’s perhaps the most demanding occasion on this list, gear wise.
Put on a shirt with some moxie — something that will stand up to both the elements and some light cardio. The Dunewood Flannel and Driftwood Denim Shirt both fit the bill, cut from hard-wearing blended fabrics with four-way stretch for added mobility.
Also apt here: the Nomad, our new take on a classic canvas work pant, with oversized patch pockets and a relaxed straight-leg fit.
Now get out there and conquer fall.
