Fair Harbor cofounder Jake Danehy shares the story behind our new golf styles
Our new Midway Collection is grounded in nostalgia, inspired by our family tradition of hitting the greens every weekend. But these styles aren't the oversized golf clothes our dad and grandfather used to wear. We wanted to balance modern silhouettes you could wear on or off the course.
So we designed the Midway Polo with a flattering slim fit in breathable, lightweight fabric. It's an all-around performance polo you'd wear even when you're not walking up to the pin. The knit fabric offers airiness and the same durability and high-performance attributes as our Ozone shorts.
The Midway shorts have a tailored fit and a classic look. Considered details, like a 9.5-inch inseam, an elastic waist with belt loops, and a double-button flap button closure, make them feel substantial. There's also a back zipper pocket to hold your golf gloves. But my favorite feature is the quick-drying, durable water repellent (DWR) swimwear fabric that lets you take a dip whenever you're done with the game. It's the same drawstring waist and 4-way stretch fabric we use in our Sextant shorts, so you really can wear them swimming to cool off after a hot day in the sun. It's a whole new kind of versatility for golf apparel!
Though the performance features in this collection might actually help your handicap, the overall feeling is very laidback. So when we were thinking about the inspiration for our photoshoot, we imagined a leisurely afternoon that captured the fun and social aspect of the game. It's about getting outside and allowing yourself to disconnect from technology and reconnect with others. This isn't the guy waking up at dawn to be the first one on the tee. The Fair Harbor guy is probably grabbing a beer and a hot dog on the 9th hole (true story) and having a great time with his friends. He's enjoying that golden hour and probably goofing off a little, too.
It's the same kind of joy we'd share with our grandfather, Harry. When we were kids, he’d drive up from Manhattan on Sundays and play a round with us before coming over to our house. We all played our part during those afternoons at the greens: Paki (as we called him) was the patient teacher, I was the wildcard, my sister Paige was the pro, and Caroline was the designated golf cart driver. Days like these were focused on gathering the family together to enjoy time under the sun.
Our new Midway Collection helps you share those moments happily–and comfortably–with your favorite people. Because isn't that what life is all about?
